Aroview: Overfamiliar but sincere portrait of a recovering addict, with a warts-and-all Maggie Gyllenhaal fresh out of jail and determined to go straight for the sake of her estranged young daughter.

Stumbling upon the usual addiction obstacles – the halfway house, the unforgiving parole officer, the supportive but untrusting family, and the constant temptation to shoot up – this is well trodden territory by any stretch of the imagination, however distinguishes itself through Gyllenhaal’s one-woman performance – her gutsiest to date – as well as the foresight to let its various dramatic turns unfold as organically as possible.
