Aro Recommended Secret Life of Words, The

USA 2005, 115 minutes
Dir. Isabel Coixet
Rating: [M]
Genres: Drama / Controversy

Topics: Rites-of-passage.

Aroview: Intense character-driven drama set on an isolated oil rig that explores the relationship between a hearing-impaired factory worker disabled by her past and a temporarily blinded burn victim she must care for.

Powerful performances from Sarah Polley (also from dir. Coixet's MY LIFE WITHOUT ME) and Tim Robbins play on the inherent tension and suffocating environment of the oil rig to reveal their troubled pasts. A well cast and insightfully directed work, this comes highly recommended.
