Candy
Aroview: Injecting free-spirited performances and downbeat songs into a predictable heroin dramaturgy , this roving drama concerns two young bohemians - Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish (SOMERSAULT) - riding the rollercoaster of addiction in Sydney.
Adapted from the novel by Luke Davies, it concentrates on giving a microscopic view at two souls sharing the exhilaration and depressing of aftermath of the needle, as sunny days translate into diminished circumstances, seamy flats and crime, with a scene involving a still-birth pregnancy being especially harrowing. Geoffrey Rush lends some irony in the role of Ledger's urbane supplier, but the film mostly plunges into the depths of the subject with considerable success.

4 stars (Very Good) Two students, Candy & Dan, with everything going for them become hooked on herion, stooping to anything to get their next fix. Depressing subject matter, but a superb cast & performances will keep you thoroughly engrossed. ~GenXGirl
