Aroview: Surprisingly savvy remake of the 1980s original, centered around the passionate young students of the New York Academy of Performing Arts.

Easily dismissed as yet another cynical remake, yet the fickle laws of pop culture and teenage propriety make this entirely ready-made to be remade again (and again). Comparisons to the original film aside, this is a film for young fans of the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL phenomemon to graduate to - adding earthy realism and palpable personal hardship to the mix of fresh-faced romance and razzle dazzle. One for the kids then, and a guilty pleasure for us show-biz "luvvies" as well.
