Glee (TV Series)

Aroview: Gleefully irreverent musical television series following an idealistic Spanish teacher who becomes director of The Glee Club, a musical-choir group looked down upon by the jocks, cheerleaders and other dictators of the American high school.

Although the characters are all of a familiar mold (the plus-sized diva, the jock who secretly wants to sing), they are painted lovingly and knowingly, existing in an idealistic high-school world where show-stopping musical numbers are par-for-the-course. That's not to say the show lacks bite; Jane Lynch as the Glee Club's sporty arch-nemesis brings a wonderfully evil element to the mix, and blended with the refreshing up-and-at-em sensibility and damn catchy tunes, it's all (well, Season 1 at least) impossible to resist.
