Flame and Citron
Aroview: Lavishly-appointed wartime thriller based on the true story of contrasting Danish resistance fighters as they take vengeance on the occupying Nazis and key collaborators in 1944.
The most expensive Danish production to date, this delivers a romantic anti-Nazi revenge fantasy with a straighter face than INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, and with a more troubled conscience as the "heroes" suffer conflict and confusion in the fog of violence. As loyalties become murkier though, so does the plotting, though the thrills are soon reinstated after a sluggish middle section. Star Thure Lindhardt also does something to restore the cool factor to the much-maligned "ginger" male.
"A heady take on the wartime resistance tale that drags you right into the dismay felt by its heroes." - Film 4
