Aroview: Spiffy, if routine blockbuster sequel finds Robert Downey Jr. reveling in his new-found celebrity as Iron Man while attracting the unwanted attention of a mad Russian physicist (Mickey Rourke) with a score to settle.
Without the technological marvels and mishaps of the excellent, politically incorrect first film, this dead-end follow-up fails to upgrade on the stock superhero vs. villain premise it settles for, with big CGI smackdowns and throwaway cameos not enough to put the spark back into the adventures of Downey Jr’s otherwise entertaining reprisal of the bravado billionaire cum armour-plated hero.

3 stars (Good Enough) RDJ does his shtick and Mickey Rourke is an effective villain but the film doesn't aspire to anything more. The first movie came as a breath of fresh air after the broodiness of Batman, Superman and Spiderman, where this seems be coasting on past glory. ~The Myrka
3 stars (Good Enough) Not nearly as disappointing as critics would have you believe, this is a decent followup to the superb origin story of the first IronMan. Downey Jnr is great, as are Rockwell and Rourke, but the action is taken a few steps closer to its comic-book roots. ~Tom H
3 stars (Good Enough) Solid, but it doesn't live up to the promise of the first as it cycles through convention and clichè. Rockwell and Rourke make the best impression as the two villains. ~Wizzums
2 stars (Good Try) There is little in it to justify the need for another Iron Man film. ~Tubbs
