God Help the Girl
“has a Judy Garland/Mickey Rooney let's-put-on-a-show innocence, and exuberance.”~Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer
Aroview: Belle & Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch writes and directs this 60s-inspired musical set in Glasgow about an emotionally troubled young woman whose songwriting aspirations lead her to cross paths with two fledgling artists.
Featuring a gorgeous collection of songs, Murdoch's skills as a tune and wordsmith well exceed his abilities as a director but its still eminently watchable, with Australian Emily Browning having a voice and a face "that could take her places".
