Lianna
Aroview: A mother-of-two breaks out of her cold marriage by way of an affair with a senior lecturer in this defining lesbian film of the 1980s, one that broke new ground for its open portrayal of sexual relations between women.
A characteristically incisive drama from John Sayles, who as a straight male, sidesteps wish-fulfilment fantasy in favour of a down-to-earth, well-rounded portrait of one woman’s struggle to find love and acceptance, amid the familiar prejudices and the complications of a marriage breakdown with children.

4 stars (Very Good) Amazing wall & door colours may detract from a brilliant script. Sayles is, above all, a wonderful storyteller. None of his films (stories) follow a predictable trajectory. Or a 'he says'/'she says' sort of dialogue, like most NZ melodramas. Very fine ~Anon
