Casa de los Babys
Aroview: Another quality ensemble drama from dir. John Sayles, that this time brings together six American women waiting to start a family through a Mexican adoption centre.
Exploring their camaraderie and conflict over several anxious weeks, this contains all the director’s trademarks; dialogue-driven, unfussy visuals, memorable set pieces, and above all an astute observation of the human condition, with Sayles also having much to say on the economic and language divide between Mexico and the US. A women's picture of substance for sure, but one of those rare films that perhaps feels at least half an hour too short.

3 stars (Good Enough) A bit weird & lightweight - the North/South contrasts are very passé! Both national groups are rather stereotyped, which is why, perhaps, Susan Lynch's character stands out. Ultimately superficial; a disappointment from Sayles. ~Anon
