House of Sand and Fog
Aroview: Essentially a showdown over the ownership of a house between an abandoned wife and a stoic Iranian immigrant, this throws up a compelling, if foggy, air of melodrama
Having failed to pay back-taxes the suicidal Connelly is forced from her family home, which the hard-nosed Kingsley picks up cheap at auction. So begins a legal and increasingly personal wrestling of strong wills, which despite some rather artificial moralising, introduces enough unexpected turns of events to carry one right to the pessemistic finale. Based on the novel by Andres Dubus.
