Marie-Jo and her Two Loves
Aroview: A dreamy, perceptive romance gently steered under the Mediterranean sun by dir. Guédiguian, who again uses the vibrant setting of his native Marseilles with his wife (Ascaride) once again his leading lady.
Here she plays Marie-Jo, who grapples with the emotional complexity of being in love with another man besides her husband. Her desire imperils her own sense of identity, and the film changes key as we see her distress grow, exacerbated by the self-righteous fury of her daughter. A film of contradictory impulses, and a sensual, honest picture of late mid-life crisis.
