OSS 117: Lost in Rio (2009)
I didn't mind the style of the humour but it is hit and miss. This one will appeal and will have an audience but for me, it is a miss.
Ran (1985)
The warlord gets interesting as the screenplay develops but the male characters generally are one dimensional. The wardrobe department does a great job but the strongest part of the film is the gorgeous photography highlighting its use of colour.
He Was a Quiet Man (2007)
The early scenes are the best but it does deserve watching because of its fresh premise and the performance of Christian Slater.
Perfect Catch, The (Fever Pitch) (2005)
Not great but it does have Drew.
Quigley Down Under (1990)
For the most part, it follows the American western formula, including the most interesting character being a baddie (Rickman), but there is a good scene with dingoes and some panoramic down under location shooting.
Tokyo Gore Police (2008)
It is entertainingly over the top.
Beyond the Time Barrier (1959)
Not great but the plot idea deserves some attention and it is compactly told.
Stuber (2019)
It is quite violent for a comedy and quite comedic considering the violence. The chemistry wasn't lacking but an hour and a half was a bit too long.
Island of Terror (1966)
The screenplay involves a creature, which resembles a vacuum cleaner gone berserk, trying to clean up the island of islanders who don't want to be cleaned up and are rushing around trying to unplug it. Good stuff.
Afro Samurai Resurrection (2009)
It is a bit different animation–wise and it doesn't lack for action. A good soundtrack helps.
