Jawbreaker (1998)
Rose McGowan is never boring and in this she heads an attractive female cast. Its a reasonable attempt at black comedy.
Martins, The (2001)
The male is an annoying twit but there are some very good segments around the always watchable Kathy Burke and Linda Bassett.
Guard, The (2010)
It has one of the better scripts around but it still needs the right cast to deliver the goods. The pairing of Gleeson and Cheadle and also of Cunningham and Strong do deliver and with interest.
Shelter (2014)
I've never seen Jennifer Connelly in a better performance (its gritty) and the love relationship, even with running noses, has an air of authenticity about it.
Touch of Pink (2004)
It is all a bit familiar but still watchable and not too long.
Sideways (2004)
As the screenplay is about two adult children killing time its very hard to get interested in characters who have nothing worthwhile to do.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
Screenplay is episodic & you could think that it was undertaken with a CD of the soundtrack in mind. The film is easy on the eye with sets & wardrobe commendable. Good performances from the leads but they are pushed aside by Goodman & Durning in support.
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989)
Its a very good screenplay and the special effects do a very good job.
Terminal, The (2004)
They manage to drag a single joke (its a good one) out by an extra hour. The casting of Hanks is bizarre & must have been for commercial reasons – his understanding of English fluctuates but for Catherine Z to be attracted to him stretches things too far.
Hateful Eight, The (2015)
This indulgence is a world apart from his classic. It just drags and gets boring. It loses a * because of the violence meted out to Jennifer.
