Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997)
I rather enjoyed the special effects and set designs which didn't appear to be too expensive. You will watch worse. Soundtrack okay.
12 Years a Slave (2013)
At the risk of being seen as disrespectful to these people's misery the film gets repetitive in relation to their beatings & murders and in doing so loses some of its impact. Good production values.
Pitch Black (2000)
Some good segments and if you haven't seen too many space creatures you might appreciate the horror.
Swan Princess, The (1994)
Undemanding animation of a timeless tale.
Pride (2014)
For most of the time it avoids the traps. There are some very good segments. The female characters in particular are excellent.
Desert Fox, The (1951)
A quality dramatisation that is supportive of Rommel but is not an in depth investigation of the man – its also an interesting "behind the scenes" look at the plot to kill Hitler. Mason is very good but the performance for me was that of Leo G. Carroll.
Days of Wine and Roses (1962)
Lemmon's oscar type acting gets on your nerves and wears you down before too long. The plot is worthwhile and the musical score memorable.
Captive, The (2014)
I thought Reynolds was a strange casting choice. I like the Director's body of work and was surprised that this one seemed verging on the mainstream but I may not have given this film proper credit after a first viewing.
Harper (1966)
Its relaxing viewing – a low body count – a slight exaggeration of the characters – some easy on the eye locations. Newman is good enough to hold the film together and his helped by a more than useful supporting cast.
Anatomy of a Murder (1959)
Stewart is another goodie goodie and gets most of the best lines.Would like to have seen more of Eve Arden. In the court room the highlight is the performance of Joseph Welch as the judge who scene steals. Scott in an early role is subdued. Far too long.
