Dog Day AfternoonDog Day Afternoon (1975)Aro Favourite
4 stars (Very Good) A very strange and almost too–funny to be true story of a bank robbery gone wrong. Or right, if public fame is what you're after. Establishes a number of elements seen in more recent films like 'Inside Man'.
Taxi DriverTaxi Driver (1976)Aro Favourite
4 stars (Very Good) De Niro is brilliant, as is a very young–looking Jodie Foster. Violent and psychotic, there is not much to the story, but De Niro establishes one of the most memorable characters in history. You lookin' at me?
CollateralCollateral (2004)Recommended
3 stars (Good Enough) The HD video has a unique look, and there are some very memorable scenes (including the crowded nightclub scene), but overall Collateral is not quite as gritty and believable as 'Heat'.
Public EnemiesPublic Enemies (2009)
3 stars (Good Enough) Mann keeps doing his own thing, and the film is at least unique in that respect. However, Public Enemies never quite lives up to the hype, despite some good performances, action sequences, and believable set pieces.
Boat That Rocked, TheBoat That Rocked, The (Pirate Radio) (2009)
3 stars (Good Enough) To be honest, there really isn't much here, with rock 'n roll undertones and attitudes never fully realised. But there are still a few laughs to be had.
Eagle EyeEagle Eye (2008)
2 stars (Good Try) Beginning with a mysterious and compelling 'Big Brother' premise, this is one of those films which becomes more ridiculous the longer you watch, with initial suspense replaced with OTT sci–fi elements.
BoyBoy (2010)Recommended
4 stars (Very Good) If the young Kiwi brothers in 'Two Cars, One Night' didn't make you laugh or steal your heart, they surely will here. This is a NZ indie classic that deserves your attention.
Eagle vs SharkEagle vs Shark (2007)Aro Favourite
3 stars (Good Enough) New Zealand's 'Napoleon Dynamite', the awkward Jermaine Clement, is the undeniable star of the film, bringing both understated and cringe–worthy humour to a very Kiwi backdrop.
DVD $24.95 $18.70
Tale of Two Sisters, ATale of Two Sisters, A (Janghwa Hongryeon) (2003)Recommended
4 stars (Very Good) One of the scarier films in recent memory, this psychological trip by Korean master Kim Ji–Woon will have you squirming and double–guessing.
Tin Drum, TheTin Drum, The (1979)Recommended
5 stars (Exceptional) A very strange and disturbing feature film which will leave you speechless. Not for everyone, but if you do bring yourself to watch, you will find it unforgettable.
