I Am Legend
Aroview: In the post-apocalyptic ruins of New York City, Will Smith is the (seemingly) sole survivor of a mutant cancer vaccine gone bung, which has spelt the end of civilisation and spawned a nocturnal undead race.
With only his dog and a few shop manequins for company, he strives to keep a healthy routine and to find a medical solution to the pandemic. Eerie, disquieting landscapes of Manhattan best utilise the film's big budget and special effects, though less convincing are the CG zombies, poor substitutes for live flesh. Further anaethetising its timely doomsday potential, a stereotypical Smith offers neither pathos nor charisma in yet another world-saving role; he's been here, done that, making it even harder to root for his cause.

3 stars (Good Enough) A hard film to rate, given this feels like 2 entirely different films: The first half is a suspenseful and emotional lone-survivor tale, while the second is a zombie actioner. Still superb visually, and a decent adaptation of the Matheson novel. ~Tom H
3 stars (Good Enough) Atmospheric. ~Tubbs
