Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

USA 2002, 109 minutes
Dir. George Clooney
Rating: [R16]
Genres: Drama, Comedy / Spy

Topics: Showbiz, Period 1960s, Period 1970s.

Aroview: The life and neuroses of TV-producer Chuck Barris are the subject of this 'confession', a freewheeling comic fantasy in which the worlds of 1970s trash TV and Cold War intrigue collide.

The central (and unproven) conceit is that Barris moonlighted as a CIA hitman, performing 'wet ops' in conjunction with his duties as creator of 'The Dating Game'. Scripted by arch-screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (ADAPTATION) this revels in its own arcane cultural details and swift-flowing plot, but never quite gels or hits the funny-bone. Directed competently by debutante Clooney.
