Hound of the Baskervilles, The (1983)
Very strong 1st half with top drawer Ian Richardson driving the story & top character actor Denholm Elliott prominent. The 2nd half is not quite as good & not helped by some uneven editing but then there is always Brian Blessed at his most threatening.
Strange Bedfellows (1965)
A fluffy screenplay but there is a couple of worthwhile scenes involving Terry Thomas who shows everyone how comedy should be acted. Some good London 60's street location shooting.
Peter Gunn (1989)
It would be hard for any screenplay to fulfill the expectations created by the opening theme tune. Modest story but the climatic scene (about ten minutes before the end ) is quite good.
Bridge of Spies (2015)
It shoots itself in the foot – although the period set designs and wardrobe are impeccable the story drags on and on. It would have helped if the superb Mark Rylance had been in more scenes.
Pan (2015)
The set designs and special effects are very good but I think this kind of adventure story has been told once too often to have much of an impact.
Bull Durham (1988)
Much better than most sports movies & for once the romantic segments enhance the entertainment. It has a good screenplay & Tim Robbins performs very well but the real difference to other sports films is that this one has Susan Sarandon.
Babylon A.D. (2008)
"Making of " helps to some degree to uncover the plot which was unclear in the film because the Sci–fi aspect was pushed aside by the too frequent action segments. There is some acting talent but for the most part it goes to waste in the supporting role
Fast and the Furious 3, The - Tokyo Drift (2006)
Very familiar format. Good stunt driving and not a bad vibrant sound track. Photogenic cast and some enjoyment can be had from viewing the male posturing.
Shaggy Dog, The (2006)
As portrayed it's just too silly to be funny.
Nutty Professor, The (1996)
Although its a remake the Murphy performances and the outstanding make up department make it worth it. What lets it down is the uneven screenplay which is at times soppy and includes unnecessary speaking out of stern jokes.
