Bridge on the River KwaiBridge on the River Kwai (1957)Recommended
3 stars (Good Enough) There is more than one reason to see this but if for nothing else see it for Guinness's performance. The screenplay dies a bit when it is away from the POW camp & shortening those segments would have helped & it would not have diluted the overall message
CheriCheri (2009)
2 stars (Good Try) There is not much to the screenplay or the characters but the production details are commendable and there is Kathy Bates from time to time.
Curse of the Golden FlowerCurse of the Golden Flower (2006)
3 stars (Good Enough) The excess bloodshed was demeaning to the high–quality production values. The colours in the quality set designs and wardrobe were stunning.
CriminalCriminal (2004)
3 stars (Good Enough) Well written for the most part with anchor Reilly very good.
SamsonSamson (Sansome) (1961)
2 stars (Good Try) It has some strength in certain areas.
Dark StarDark Star (1974)
3 stars (Good Enough) A genuine cult offering that probably doesn't give a stuff whether it is liked or not.rn
PasschendaelePasschendaele (2008)
2 stars (Good Try) This is another example of writer/director/leading man. Passchendaele makes an appearance after an hour but even then has to share screen time with the romantic leftovers from earlier.
Boudu Saved from DrowningBoudu Saved from Drowning (1932)Recommended
3 stars (Good Enough) The best compliment I can pay it is that it is still well worth watching 90 years on. The screenplay is very good and as it is played out whimsically it is also very entertaining.
EnigmaEnigma (2001)Recommended
3 stars (Good Enough) Although the true story of the code breakers is now reasonably well known this dramatisation is well worth it considering the quality of the cast and the production's period details.
California SplitCalifornia Split (1974)Recommended
3 stars (Good Enough) The screenplay has aged pretty well and the gambling den scenes are very believable and strong.
